In the long days of summer, we turn to citrus.
Known for its mood-boosting scent and skin-loving properties, citrus isn’t just a nice treat.
It has a mood-boosting effect when inhaled, skin-brightening properties when applied topically, and skin protecting properties when taken internally as a refreshing treat. In fact, citrus in summertime is an age-old practice and now substantiated with scientific data.
Brenda Brock, our founder and formulator, invites us to take our sun care a little bit further: “There’s so much more to summer skincare and sun protection than just applying an SPF. Studies suggest that citrus consumption offers protection against skin damage due to sun exposure. Citrus fruits are packed with flavonoids that have been shown to improve the skin’s ability to protect against UV rays. We love this connection given that citrus grows in hot, sunny climates where sun exposure is harsh and these sun-filled fruits offer themselves for cooling tonics to combat the heat- lemonade, iced tea, and cocktails garnished with citrus are all traditional ways to minimize the impact of sun and heat exposure.
